Abstract

A liquid crystal display device, wherein liquid crystal is driven by an electric field that is parallel to a substrate, includes a plurality of gate lines (X ), (X ) and a plurality of data lines (Y ), (Y ) provided such that the data lines intersect with the plurality of gate lines, switching elements ( ) connected to the gates lines (X ) and the data lines (Y ), pixel electrodes ( ) connected to the data lines (Y ) via the switching elements ( ), and opposing electrodes ( ) forming pairs with the pixel electrodes ( ), wherein a plurality of storage capacities ( ), ( ) for maintaining a charge of the pixel electrodes ( ) are provided in a distributed arrangement associated with points where the plurality of gate lines (X ), (X ) and the plurality of data lines (Y ), (Y ) intersect.
