Abstract

A washing composition is disclosed which includes an &agr;-sulfofatty acid ester and a silicate builder to control water hardness while reducing builder deposits on clothing. The composition is free of added inorganic phosphate builders and insoluble zeolite builders, yet provides comparable cleaning performance to detergents containing such builders.
