Abstract
A combiner ( ) has a glass reflector ( ) with first and second curved surfaces ( ) each having an optical coating. A first prism ( ) has a surface ( ) which complements the surface ( ) of the reflector ( ) and a second prism ( ) has a surface ( ) which complements the surface ( ) of the reflector ( ). The surfaces ( and ) and the surfaces ( and ) are each primed and allowed to dry before being polished. The reflector ( ) and prisms ( and ) are arranged with respect to one another such that surface ( ) forms a well ( ) with surface ( ) and similarly surface ( ) forms a well ( ) with surface ( ). The wells ( ) are completed with a seal ( ) at a lower end ( ) and bonding agent ( ) is injected into the wells ( ). The combiner ( ) is placed in a vacuum chamber to remove trapped air bubbles and the agent ( ) is allowed to cool at a temperature which does not unduly stress the reflector ( ) and prisms ( and ).
