Abstract
A structure in which two substrates in a liquid-crystal display device are not easily short-circuited is used to prevent a display defect caused by a short circuit formed between upper and lower electrodes by insertion of conductive foreign matter. An insulating film consisting of various insulators is formed on a wiring layer , a first electrode portion , a thin insulating layer , and a second electrode layer . The insulating film entirely covers the surfaces of the wiring layer and the MIM element, and part of the insulating film is slightly inserted into the inner side of a pixel region. A portion of the insulating film corresponding to a pixel contact portion serves as an opening for assuring the electric conductivity between the MIM element and a pixel electrode . The peripheral portion of the pixel electrode is formed to overlap the inner edge portion of the insulating film . The peripheral portion is designed to be in contact with the pixel contact portion of the second electrode layer through the opening of the insulating film
