Abstract
In a side bar cylinder lock with a variable key code, plug ( ) engages within casing ( ) at two opposite portions in preventing plug ( ) from rotating in locking state. This improves the lock in resistance to attack. Plug ( ) has holes ( ) each receiving a tumbler plate ( ) and variable tumbler ( ) side by side therein. When plug ( ) is rotated to have a bulged portion ( ) of said bar holder ( ) abut against concave portion ( ) of casing ( ), spring ( ) forces end portion ( ) of plate ( ) to enter receiving hole ( ) of plug ( ), and forces a bulged portion ( ) of holder ( ) to engage with concave portion ( ) of casing ( ), whereby engaging portion ( ) of plate ( ) is disengaged from an engaged portion ( ) of variable tumbler ( ). After such disengagement, variable tumbler ( ) is rotated through an angle to change the key code to a new one.
