Abstract

A bistable liquid crystal display device can be erased by the application of a mechanical pressure P at a section of the display. The pressure induces a flow of the liquid crystal ( ) material into an expansion chamber ( ). The induced flow causes a transition from the non-reflecting to the reflecting state, thus eliminating the necessity of high voltage erasing voltages.
