Abstract

A receiver ( ) includes an antenna ( ), a preselector ( ), an amplifier ( ), a mixer ( ), a filter ( ), a signal strength measurement circuit ( ), a radio frequency signal detector ( ), and a processor ( ). The processor ( ) is programmed to receive a signal indicator level ( ) from the signal strength measurement circuit ( ), generate an automatic gain control command ( ) based on the received signal indicator level ( ), and send the automatic gain control command ( ) to the amplifier ( ) to control a gain of the amplifier ( ). The processor ( ) is programmed to receive an off channel signal strength ( ) from the radio frequency signal detector ( ), compare the off channel signal strength ( ) to one or more threshold levels, generate a filter command ( ), and send the filter command ( ) to the filter ( ). The filter command ( ) identifies a cutoff frequency for the filter ( ).
