Abstract

A communication system ( ) includes a control unit ( ) electronically coupled to a pushbutton switch ( ). The control unit ( ) includes a wake-up circuit ( ) having a signal generator ( ) and a signal detector ( ). The signal generator ( ) generates a digital pulse signal ( ) having a predetermined amplitude ( ) and a predetermined duration ( ) for receipt by the pushbutton switch ( ). The signal detector ( ) monitors the digital pulse signal ( ) to determine whether the pushbutton switch ( ) is actuated or not actuated. The communications system ( ) maintains a low power consumption mode responsive to determining when the pushbutton switch ( ) is not actuated, and enables a normal power consumption mode responsive to determining when the pushbutton switch ( ) is actuated.
