Abstract
A method is proposed for compressing a sequence of data elements and for decompressing it, which is used for loss-free, storage space-saving compression. In this connection, the data elements are stored in a compressed or uncompressed form depending on the correlation with preceding or subsequent data elements in the data element sequence. In particular, the method is used for the display in a freely programmable combination instrument in a motor vehicle. The data to be compressed are in particular image data.
