Abstract
A method and device for recording multiple information volumes on a record carrier, usually called multi-session recording, is described. The device has control means ( ) for recording and retrieving position data indicative of the position of the recorded information volumes. The control means include a mapping unit ( ) for creating a session map zone. In the session map zone session map blocks (SEM) are recorded that contain the position data of closed sessions, i.e. sessions that have been completely recorded, in session items. Further the device has a detection unit ( ) for retrieving the session map block from said session map zone.
