Abstract
An optical switch and optical router to rapidly (in the range of nanoseconds to picoseconds) route signals from particular channels within an optical band by using optical switches which utilize a controlled whispering gallery mode (WGM) resonance of dielectric microspheres to optically switch signal by virtue of their evanescent waves.
