Abstract
A gap defined between cathode wires having electron emitting sources and control electrodes is made uniform and a thickness of an insulation layer interposed between both of them is made thin or the insulation layer is eliminated whereby the electron emission characteristics and the high-frequency driving of high performance can be realized. The control electrodes which have recessed portions in plate-like members and have holes for allowing electrons to pass therethrough in bottom portions thereof restrict the gap defined between the cathode wires and the control electrodes by adjusting a plate-thickness direction size of the holes formed in the control electrodes
