Abstract

A variable valve actuation assembly ( ) to be mounted about a camshaft ( ) including a concentric portion ( ) and an eccentric portion ( ) which orbits the axis of rotation (A ) of the camshaft and defines an axis (A ). The assembly ( ) includes a secondary cam member ( ) surrounding the concentric portion ( ) and including a cam surface ( L). The assembly ( ) also includes an arm assembly ( ) which surrounds the eccentric portion ( ), and defines a longitudinal axis (A ) perpendicular to, and intersecting the axis (A ). The arm assembly ( ) can pivot about a pin ( ), and at the opposite axial end is pivotally connected to the secondary cam member ( ) by means of a pin ( ). Rotation of the camshaft ( ) causes the arm assembly ( ) to pivot about the pin ( ) in one direction, rotating the cam member ( ) to lift the valve ( ), then pivot in the other direction, rotating the cam member ( ) in the opposite direction.
