Abstract
A gate valve ( ) comprising valve body ( ) and a gate element ( ) movable to selectively interrupt a flow passage through the valve body ( ). The gate element ( ) is supported for rotation in a correspondingly shaped recess ( ) in the valve body ( ). In one embodiment rotation of the gate element ( ) is effected by drive means comprising a first member ( ) mounted for rotation in the valve body ( ) and a second member ( ) mounted for rotation in the gate element ( ), the first and second members ( ) being linked such that rotational movement of the first member ( ) is translated into rotational movement of the gate element ( ) by the second member ( ). In an alternative embodiment rotation of the gate element ( ) is effected by a toothed rack ( ).
