Abstract

A method to buffer a data stream at its reception, performed by a receiver of the data stream. Data sent by a sender is transferred over a connection-less network in packets encapsulated into frames. The method of buffering itself includes the steps of storing the packets into a buffer of a specific size (B ). When the receiver received at least one of the packets, its delay (jitter) is measured and compared with some predefined value. Depending on the result of that comparison, said buffer size (B ) will be adapted dynamically such to optimize the transfer of the packets according to some predefined criteria.
