Abstract

The present invention prevents abnormal wear of the friction surfaces surrounding the rocker arm, prevents poor lubrication when the engine is started at low temperature after a long period of shutdown, and improves reliability. A bag-shaped oil sump ( ) opening upward is provided in the middle part of the rocker arm main body ( ). A roller ( ) and a roller pin ( ) are provided inside the oil sump ( ) and when the engine stops, these are immersed in the oil in the oil sump ( ). When the engine stops, the area between the roller ( ) and the roller pin ( ) is lubricated. Further, when the engine is re-started after a long period of shutdown, until the oil has risen, the area between the roller ( ) and the cam ( ) can be lubricated using the oil adhering to the roller ( ). When the rocker arm ( ) oscillates downward, the oil in the oil sump ( ) is supplied from the oil exhaust ( ) by spraying towards the valve shaft end.
