Abstract

The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for supporting TCP/IP services in a cellular radio access network connected to a telecommunications network offering TCP/IP services. In accordance with the invention, the bearer service parameters required by different TCP/IP services are predetermined in the radio access network, the correct parameters for a given connection being selected by identifying the TCP/IP service on the basis of the content of the first IP packet received. Thus, different TCP/IP services can be handled in different ways in the radio access network and a bearer service that best corresponds to the actual needs can be established through the radio access network. This way, good service quality to the user is ensured and, furthermore, optimization of the capacity of the radio access network is made possible when only correct-type capacity is reserved for each connection.
