Abstract

A process and apparatus for conveying flexible sheet-like articles wherein the articles are fed to a first curved section by means of a delivery conveyor which includes spaced apart transporting clamps for retaining the articles in a hanging position. Arranged in a radially inward direction at the curved section is a gripper wheel with circumferentially distributed grippers and respective supporting elements The gripper wheel is driven at the same angular velocity as the transporting clamps in the curved section However, a single gripper is assigned in each case to two transporting clamps The lower free edges of the two articles to be joined are guided by a supporting element into a gripper and as soon as this has taken place, the relevant gripper is closed, and the relevant transporting clamps then release the articles The associated supporting element is then drawn back inward in the radial direction.
