Abstract

A non-linear perluoro polyalkylene or perfluoro polyarylene glycol of specific molecular conformation such as plate-like, spherical, or helical and having the formula CF —[—(—RO—) —CF ] , wherein R is a C -C linear or branched, substituted or unsubstituted fluoroalkyl or perfluoroalkyl group, or a substituted or unsubstituted fluoroaryl or perfluoroaryl group; x is an integer from 0 to 2; and n is a number between about 1 to about 20 is provided as a lubricant topcoat on a magnetic recording medium. The inventive lubricants are stable and provide increased bonded lube ratios compared to those of conventional lubricants.
