Abstract

In a malware scanner containing an updating program , a malware scanner engine and malware definition data , the malware scanner engine and the malware definition data cross-check each other for validity. More particularly, each includes its own signature as well as public key information for checking the other. There is no dependence upon the updating software for information required in the validating of the malware scanner engine or malware definition data . The malware definition data can include program code operable to utilize the validating data embedded within the malware definition data for checking the signature of the malware scanner engine
