Abstract
The invention provides a method of diagnosing sepsis in a mammal by contacting a bodily fluid from the mammal with a ligand which binds to an inter-alpha trypsin inhibitor (ITI) polypeptide under conditions sufficient to form an ITI-ligand complex and detecting the complex.
