Abstract

The invention is directed to a fire door having a core, stiles, and rails formed of resin bonded exfoliated vermiculite, wherein the core has a density which exceeds that of the stiles and rails. The invention is also directed to such a fire door additionally having an intumescent material placed on some or all of the exposed edges of the stiles and rails.
