Abstract
The invention relates to a large vocabulary speech recognition system with the ability to recognize alphanumeric sequences. The recognition system prompts the caller to spell out an alphanumeric sequence in the form “letter for word” (eg A for Apple) and then uses the first letter of the word in combination with the detected letter to determine the alphabetic character being spelt out. Once the complete sequence has been spelt out, it is played back for confirmation.
