Abstract
An image transformation method to reduce the number of the gray levels is disclosed. Error diffusion, error bias and a programmable integer C are utilized. For the focus pixel, the value G of the original gray scale is read. The related errors E previously obtained from some chosen pixels are loaded in. The respective corresponding weighting coefficient W for each errors E are determined. Then, a resultant gray value R of the focus pixel is calculated by R =G +&Sgr;W (E −C), wherein C is a programmable integer. Thereafter, the gray value R is dividing into most significant part M and least significant part L , wherein M is a K-bit integer, L is an (N−K)-bit integer, M ×2 +L =R , and −2 /2≦L <2 /2. The error E of the focus pixel is stored as L plus an error bias D of 2 /2. Finally, the focus pixel is displayed using M as the degraded target gray value.
