Abstract
An apparatus is provided for imparting substantially oscillatory horizontal motion to a subject. The apparatus has a translating support assembly, an oscillatory mechanism, and an actuator permitting the subject to apply a non-gravitational acceleration to the translating support assembly. The oscillatory mechanism has a linkage assembly with mounts offset in a plane transverse to the direction of motion so as to permit a large stroke of travel of the translating support assembly relative to a fixed support structure. Additionally, a locking mechanism is provided that is biased to preclude motion of the oscillatory mechanism in the absence of a substantial weight on the support assembly.
