Abstract
A solid state control switching and control system ( ) for retractable landing lights. A control unit ( ) uses an absolute position sensor ( ) to monitor the position of the lighthead ( ) of the retractable landing light, and actuates a motor ( ), brake ( ), and lamp ( ) in response to command signals ( ) from the flight crew. Actuation of the motor ( ), brake ( ), and lamp ( ) with solid state switches ( ) is gradual and synchronized to minimize electromagnetic interference and extend component life.
