Abstract

Caliciviruses are herein recognized as potentially important human pathogens, infecting a large percentage (18%) of a sampled human population. A new calicivirus isolate called “San Miguel sea lion virus 5 serotype -1” (SMSV-5 Hom-1) is also disclosed. Compositions and methods are disclosed that allow diagnosis, prevention and treatment of calicivirus (including SMSV-5 Hom-1) infection in humans.
