Abstract

A fastening device and method for fastening at least two objects, such as bone portions, together in a desired alignment. The fastening device includes a securing member, such as a bone screw ( ), having a head ( ), a shank ( ), and an end region ( ) distal the head ( ). The device also includes a guiding means, such as guidewire ( ), comprising at least an elongate member. The guidewire ( ) is connected to or formed integral with the end region ( ) of the securing member ( ). The device and method is especially useful in circumstances where it is desirable or, in fact, crucial for the objects to be so fastened in a particular and/or specific alignment. The device is also beneficial for use in fastening together any or all portions of bone surrounding a fracture site.
