Abstract

In a head protection mechanism ( ) for protecting a magnetic head ( ) so that a coupled portion of a reader tape ( ) is not in contact with the magnetic head, a protection arm ( ) is rotatably mounted on a main surface of a chassis ( ) close to an actuator assembly ( ). The protection arm has a tape passing groove ( ) and an arm portion ( ). Rotatably mounted on a back surface of the chassis, a protection lever ( ) has one end ( ) which is close to a ring cam ( ) and which is engageably disposed to a cam face ( ). The protection lever has another end ( ) which is coupled to a tip ( ) of the arm portion in the protection arm via a hole ( ) bored in the chassis. A spring ( ) always urges the protection arm nearer to the actuator assembly.
