Abstract

The high-pressure discharge lamp comprises a sealed lamp vessel ( ) having a quartz glass wall ( ) enclosing a discharge space ( ). Metal foils ( ) are embedded in the wall, connected to electrode rods ( ) projecting from the wall into the discharge space. The electrode rods ( ) have a first part ( ) and a second part ( ). The second part is made of tungsten with a diameter of 120 to 180 &mgr;m or molybdenum with a diameter of 120 to 350 &mgr;m, or tungsten-molybdenum mixtures with a diameter of 120 to 350 &mgr;m. The second part, which is positioned within the wall ( ), prevents premature failure of the lamp caused by leakage.
