Abstract

A method and apparatus for modifying contractility of heart tissue. The method includes applying electrodes ( ) to one or more sites in the heart ( ) and making a determination at which of the sites, if any, to pace the heart. A parameter of an excitable tissue control (ETC) signal ( ) to be applied to the heart is set responsive to the determination, and the ETC signal is applied to at least one of the electrodes responsive to the parameter, so as to enhance contractility of the heart.
