Abstract
Fastener gripping apparatus ( ) can be used in connection with a shaft ( ) having a driver portion ( ) adapted to engage a bolt ( ). The apparatus is used to move the bolt between an uninstalled condition, and an installed condition in a structural member ( ). The apparatus can include a chassis ( ) having a first end ( ), a second end ( ), and a passage ( ) extending therebetween. The shaft can be positioned in the passage with the driver portion extending from the second end. A retainer ( ) can be connected to the chassis, having a retaining end ( ) adjacent the second end and moveable between a closed position and an open position. A contact surface ( ) can be on said retaining end and positioned to hold the fastener in engagement with the driver portion when the retainer is in the closed position. A cam surface ( ) can be on said retaining end, positioned to engage the structural member to move the retainer from the closed position to the open position when the fastener is moved from the uninstalled condition to the installed condition.
