Abstract
Arrangements for a surge protection device reduce the effects of mutual inductance and therefore, the overall inductance in electrical connections between suppression components in the device. Suppression components in surge protection devices can be oriented such that current flow through adjacent diodes are opposite in direction, thereby causing induced magnetic fields to be opposite in direction to each other. As a result, overall inductances of the surge protection devices are decreased which in turn causes clamp voltages of the surge protection devices to be decreased. In addition, multi-layered circuit boards and integrated circuits can be used to implement surge protection devices so that inductive effects of electrical connections in the surge protection devices are decreased, in order to decrease clamp voltages.
