Abstract

In a satellite communications system, where a user terminal may wish to page more than one satellite or more than one spot beam , and where the definition of a timeslot for a paging channel occurs a predetermined period after the sending of a broadcast burst , the possibility of sustained temporal collision between paging channels between adjacent satellites or adjacent spot beams is avoided by periodically, progressively, and cyclically, moving the predetermined period.
