Abstract
Apparatus ( ) for controlling rotation of an input ( ) in the most preferred form of a brake includes a housing ( ) which can be positioned in either first or second positions. In the first position, a piston ( ) moves out of its cavity ( ) in the housing ( ) and forces a plate ( ) including the piston ( ) and an interface facing ( ) toward an interface disc ( ) while a release spring ( ) located in a countersink ( ) acts on a fastener ( ) to move the first plate ( ) away from the interface disc ( ). When flipped to the second position, the piston ( ) moves out of its cavity ( ) in the housing ( ) and forces a second plate ( ) interconnected to the first plate ( ) away from the interface disc ( ) while engaging springs ( ) sandwiched in cavities ( ) between the housing ( ) and the first plate ( ) including the interface facing ( ) force the first plate ( ) toward the interface disc ( ). Thus, apparatus ( ) can be assembled to be either fluid engaged or fluid released from the same components, with the use of the same components to construct rotational control apparatus ( ) with different actuation methods resulting in lower component fabrication and inventory costs.
