Abstract
A semi-solid link solenoid comprises windings held within a housing , and a spring biased plunger which is free to slide axially within the windings. The plunger slideably engages a contact rod having an end knob . The end knob of the contact rod is contained within a center chamber of the plunger between a shoulder and an abutment pin . A contact disc is fixed to an opposite end of the contact rod . When the windings are energized and the plunger is pulled completely into the windings, the contact disc is forced into contact with the terminals and . After electric current is removed from the windings, the plunger returns to its non-energized position. When returning to this position, the shoulder slams against the end knob with a large amount of force to pull the contact rod and contact disc away from the terminals and . In this manner, the force to disengage the contact disc from the terminals and is significantly increased.
