Abstract
An electrical circuit for selectively operating a vehicle parking brake ( ) with the energizing and de-energizing of a coil ( ) of a solenoid valve ( ) in response to an operator input. The electrical circuit comprising a source of electrical energy (V Bat), an operator actuable switch ( ) connected by line ( ) to the coil ( ) and a first microprocessor ( ) which in turn is connected by an electronically controllable switch ( ) through a low side driver ( ) to connect line ( ) from coil ( ) with a ground ( ) and a second microprocessor ( ) connected to the first microprocessor ( ) and electronically controllable switch ( ) for detecting erroneous first microprocessor ( ) operation. If the second microprocessor ( ) detects an erroneous operation in the first microprocessor ( ), the second microprocessor ( ) assumes control and switches the electronically controllable switch ( ) such that electrical energy (V Bat) is supplied to the low side driver ( ) and as a result the actuation of coil ( ) is under the direct control of the operator actuable switch ( ) to effect a parking brake application.
