Abstract

An engine valve ( ) such as an intake valve or exhaust valve is driven to open or close a corresponding intake or exhaust port by attracting an armature ( ) onto one of first and second electromagnets ( ) and a position of the armature, viz., the position of the engine valve is measured by a permanent magnet ( ) and a Hall effect device ( ).
