Abstract
A cathode ray tube ( ) comprises an electrically conductive layer ( ) shielding against alternating electric fields produced by the deflection unit ( ). The electrically conductive layer ( ), including an electrically conductive polymer, is provided on at least a part of the funnel portion ( ) of the tube ( ). The electrically conductive polymer is preferably chosen from the group of polythiophenes. Good results were obtained with a layer comprising poly-3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene. Application of this compound prevents the occurrence of damage to the tube by arcing phenomena and thus reduces the necessity of an insulating film between the tube ( ) and the deflection unit ( ).
