Abstract

An STN liquid crystal layer ( ) is sandwiched between a first substrate ( ) having first electrodes ( ) and a second substrate ( ) having second electrodes ( ), a reflective layer ( ) is formed over the entire first substrate ( ), and a color filter ( ) is provided on the reflective layer ( ) to constitute a liquid crystal cell ( ). A twisted retardation film ( ), retardation films ( ) and a polarizing film ( ) are arranged on the visible side of the second substrate ( ). The second substrate ( ) is larger than the first substrate ( ). First electrode wiring patterns ( ) extending to an area of the second substrate ( ) outside the area superposed on the first substrate ( ) are formed on a surface of the second substrate ( ) provided with the second electrodes ( ). Input patterns ( ) are formed on the area of the second substrate ( ), outside the first substrate ( ). The first and second substrates ( ) are coupled with an anisotropic conductive seal ( ) to electrically connect the first electrodes ( ) and the wiring patterns ( ). A liquid crystal driving IC ( ) is mounted on the second substrate ( ), and each input/output terminal thereof is electrically connected to the wiring pattern ( ) and the input pattern ( ) through an anisotropic conductive adhesive ( ).
