Abstract

Electric discharge is caused in a concave portion ( ) to generate ultraviolet light. The ultraviolet light is incident upon a fluorescent layer ( ), which emits visible light. The emitted visible light is transmitted through transparent electrodes ( ) and radiated from a surface. Because spherical materials ( ) are arranged on the inner surface of the concave portion ( ), the surface area of the fluorescent layer ( ) is enlarged, more ultraviolet light enters the fluorescent layer ( ), and the conversion efficiency from ultraviolet to visible light is enhanced.
