The seat belt assembly ( ) includes a seat belt retractor ( ) for attachment to the floor ( ) and a shoulder belt ( ) extending from the retractor ( ) to a latch plate ( ). The subject invention is characterized by a tackle ( ) and flexible tension bearing elements ( ) which connect the tackle ( ) to the side walls ( ) of the vehicle ( ). The tackle ( ) has a roller ( ) with the shoulder belt ( ) entrained over the roller ( ). The flexible elements ( ) transmit loads on the tackle ( ) from the shoulder belt ( ) to the side walls ( ) of the vehicle ( ).
