Abstract

A motor vehicle air spring has an air volume subdivided into an air spring volume and an ancillary volume. The two volumes ( ) are connected to each other by a line ( ) having a cross section which can be switched or continuously adjusted by a valve ( ). The valve ( ) has two roll membranes ( ) which are arranged in mutual opposition. The intermediate space ( ) between the roll membranes ( ) preferably communicates with the atmosphere. The two mutually opposingly mounted roll membranes ( ) can be joined to form a single double roll membrane ( ). Preferably, the valve body ( ) as well as the bore ( ) of the valve housing ( ) is configured so as to be cylindrical so that the constant effective diameter (Dw) of the roll membranes ( ) results which is independent of the deflection of the valve body ( ). The valve ( ) is applicable to all areas where a large cross section has to be completely cleared with small switching times and forces and where only little switching energy is available.
