Abstract
A system for detecting the operative strokes of an internal combustion reciprocating engine ( ) includes a plurality of cylinders (C , C , C , C ), a crankshaft ( ) and at least one camshaft ( ). The system also includes first and second sensors ( ), each including one sensor ( ) and one wheel ( ), the first sensor detecting the frequency of revolution of the crankshaft ( ) and the angular position of at least one cambshaft ( ), respectively. The second sensor includes a phonic wheel ( ) split into a number of sectors (S , S , S , S ) equal to the number of cylinders (C , C , C , C ) in which each sector (S , S , S , S ) has a characteristic number of projections and recesses ( ) which is different from those of other sectors. An electronic control unit ( ) establishes the operative strokes of the cylinders (C , C , C , C ) in accordance with the signals output by the first and second sensors.
