An oil reservoir for vehicle transmissions includes an oil pan, cover, and filter cartridge which are manufactured as separate components. The cover is attached to the pan preferably with a snap-fit connection. The filter cartridge is releasably secured in position between the cover and pan so as to enable the module to be installed and removed without having to disconnect the cover from the pan
