Abstract
An optical module includes an optical waveguide element having an optical axis which can be adjusted with high accuracy. An optical waveguide element is arranged on an Si bench substrate such that an optical waveguide layer (including a lower clad layer a core layer and an upper clad layer ) faces the upper surface of the Si bench substrate and is fixed to that surface with an adhesive A plurality of spherical spacers (fine particles made of quartz, for instance) are arranged between the optical waveguide element and the Si bench substrate The gap distance between the optical waveguide element and the Si bench substrate is regulated by the diameter of the spacer
