Abstract
An active filter ( ) suppresses current harmonics generated in a dc bus ( ) by generating a compensating current that is approximately equal-but-opposite in polarity to the current harmonics. In one implementation, the active filter ( ) includes: an energy storage capacitor ( ); a choke ( ); a switch circuit ( ); and a controller ( ). The controller ( ) receives a current harmonics measurement for the dc bus ( ) and generates switch gating signals ( ) as a function of the current harmonics measurement. The switch circuit ( ) receives the switch gating signals ( ) from the controller ( ) and is operatively connected to the energy storage capacitor ( ) and the choke ( ) to selectively discharge the energy storage capacitor ( ) to inject current into the dc bus ( ) and to selectively draw current from the dc bus ( ) via the choke ( ).
