Abstract

The present invention relates to a process for the conversion of 1,4 butynediol to 1,4 butanediol or a mixture of 1,4 butanediol and 1,4 butenediol comprising hydrogenating an aqueous solution of 1,4 butynediol using platinum supported CaCO catalyst at a temperature in the range of 20-190° C. under a hydrogen pressure in the range between 5-100 bar and collecting the product by any known method.
