Abstract
A plurality of trough displacement characteristics and drive signals for driving a drive unit for a trough are determined in association with each other and the speed of transport of the articles M transported by the trough having one of the trough displacement characteristics is also determined. Accordingly, a plurality of relationships between the transport speed of the articles M and the drive signal of the drive unit can be determined and, based on these relationships and merely by inputting a target speed to be attained by the articles M, the drive signal for the drive unit can easily be selected which enables the speed of transport of the articles M to attain the target speed. Also, since a travel quantity characteristics indicative of a correspondence between the quantity of travel of the articles and the driving time of the trough with respect to each of parameters of the plural coefficients of kinetic friction &mgr; is determined, the quantity of travel of the articles M with respect to the driving time of the trough can be grasped with respect to the plural coefficients of kinetic friction &mgr; taken as a parameter. Based on this, the coefficient of kinetic friction &mgr; between the desired trough and the articles M can easily be obtained from the quantity of travel of the articles measured by actually driving the trough for a predetermined time to transport the article M.
