Abstract

A light beam deflected by a polygon mirror ( ) is incident substantially perpendicularly on a trapezoidal reflecting prism ( ) having an incidence surface ( ) and two reflection surfaces ( ). Then, the light beam incident on the reflecting prism ( ) is totally reflected at the first reflection surface ( ) toward the second reflection surface ( ). Next, the totally reflected light beam is totally reflected at the second reflection surface ( ) toward the incidence surface ( ) and is emitted from the incidence surface ( ) in the opposite direction from the incident direction. The emitted light beam passes through a cylindrical lens ( ) and is reflected and directed toward a scan surface ( ) by a cylindrical mirror ( ). The reflected light beam forms a scanning spot-on the scan surface ( ).
